NASLCC Statement on President Trump’s Decision to Terminate DACA

Frank Garcia, Chairman of NASLCC, the National Association of State Latino Chambers of Commerce, issued the following statement after President Trump announced the termination of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

“The NASLCC steadfastly opposes the President’s decision to terminate DACA, which was enacted to shield almost 800,000 individuals who were brought to this country through no fault of their own.

This decision is inconsistent with the values of this country, and previous statements by President Trump, further undermining the President’s credibility on issues important to the Latino community. This action further results in a de facto economic policy increasing the undocumented population in the U.S. ultimately costing the country billions.

Although the members of the NASLCC remain very concerned with the inconsistencies and direction demonstrated by the President as the leader of our country, our immediate concern is for the DACA program and their families.

The NASLCC calls on congress to assume their rightful responsibility for designing and implementing humane immigration policy. Our association stands committed to working with congress to achieve a compassionate and just solution on this issue.”
