Moreno Valley Honored by Southern California Edison as "Clean Energy Champion"

In recognition of the City of Moreno Valley's commitment to clean, sustainable and efficient energy use, Southern California Edison (SCE) has named it a "Clean Energy Champion." The award will be presented virtually on Friday, Oct. 9, at SCE's 10th Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration.

Specifically, SCE recognized the City's recently completed conversion of more than 9,400 streetlights to use brighter, energy-efficient LEDs. The project saves more than 2.5 million kilowatt hours annually, enough electricity to power close to 250 homes for an entire year while reducing greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 600 tons.

"We're proud of the work we've done to improve energy efficiency while reducing our environmental impact," said Dr. Yxstian Gutierrez, Mayor of Moreno Valley, "and we continue to look for ways to do even more."

"This project has had an immediate benefit to our community in terms of both aesthetics and public safety," added Mayor Pro Tem Victoria Baca, who will accept the award on behalf of the City. "And it brings sustainable, long-term environmental benefits for residents of our community and beyond."
